5 Tips to enjoy the sun & protect your skin
Posted on May 05 2021
As we are edging into summer and the restrictions in the UK are easing, we wanted to give you our top tips for enjoying your beach filled days safely! We have been scoping the staycation locations up and down the country (check out our blog ‘Four stunning UK beaches to enjoy this summer’) and can’t wait for a bit of normality and a good heatwave! So here goes…
1. SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN!
Sunscreen is important for everyday life, but it’s especially important during the summer! We recommend regularly applying product to all exposed skin (every 2-3 hours), not forgetting your necks and hands! Carleen from Beauty and Fashion Tech mentions using “double-duty cosmetic products to maximize sun protection. For example, in addition to regularly applying sunscreen, use a moisturizer with sunscreen and/or a foundation with sunscreen. This way, you help ensure that you are always protected. You can even use powder sunscreen as your finishing powder.”
The harmful effects of sun exposure include:
- Skin cancer. This accounts for nearly half of all diagnosed cases of skin cancer.
- Leads to the formation of wrinkles and causes the skin to lose its elasticity. Up to 85% of facial wrinkles are caused by sun exposure.
- Exacerbates inflammatory skin conditions and can cause uneven pigmentation.
2. Wear protective clothing
You don’t have to rely on sunscreen alone, opt for light and breathable layers that cover and protect your skin. At Sei Sorelle we offer a beautiful range of full coverage swimsuits that are moisture wicking and allow your skin to breathe! Pair our sustainable swimsuits with straw hats and big sunglasses for sun protection and the perfect summer look!
3.Staying Hydrated
It’s easy to become dehydrated on a hot day, especially when soaking in all the sun rays on a on the beach! It’s important to drink plenty of water, but also try snacking on water rich fruits and veg such as watermelons, pineapple, peaches and strawberries – perfect picnic snacks. Alternatively drink a cold refreshing glass of coconut water, not only is a great source of hydration but it packed with electrolytes!
4. Make the most of the saltwater
If you are at a beach, then be sure to take advantage of the salt water! There are so many benefits for your skin.
- It can help treat various skin conditions as it is packed with magnesium, potassium and calcium.
- It’s known to absorb toxins on and in the skin and so can help with acne
- It gently exfoliates the skin
5. Cleanse well at the end of the day
After a fun packed day in the sun and at the beach, it’s important that you cleanse your skin! It has probably been exposed to a lot of dirt, bacteria and sweat – which can clump together and clog up your pores. The last thing you want is a breakout on your beautiful sun kissed skin!
Use a gentle cleanser, on both your face and body, followed by a moisturiser. If you have spent the day at the beach, you may want to skip the exfoliating as the sand will have given you a natural skin exfoliation.
